  • Data centre services
TransACT supplies a carrier-grade secure data centre space. Space is provided per rack (TransACT-supplied cabinet) or per square metre (customer-supplied cabinet).

  • Location
The TransACT data centre is situated three kilometers from the Canberra CBD on Northbourne Avenue. The location is served by multiple access roads in case of a disaster or emergency. The data centre is 5 km from the parliamentary triangle, meeting the requirement of many federal government agency RFTs.

  • Security
    The data centre features:
    • monitoring of all access points to the building
    • security cameras that continually monitor the facility
    • physical security; a minimum of two layers for the carrier-grade site and three layers for the HP site
    • card access technology that tracks and records all door entry and exit transactions.

  • Network Operations Centre
The Network Operations Centre (NOC) is manned 24 hours, every day of the year. NOC staff are highly trained and can provide telephone and on-site support if required.
For more complex tasks TransACT can provide Tier 3 support through TransACT's Core Network Development team. This team manages and maintains TransACT's fibre-to-the curb network, and are experienced with ATM, SDH, SONET, ethernet and TDM transmission.

  • Connectivity
The TransACT data centre provides first class connectivity to TransACT's carrier services and third party carrier services.
The co-located carriers and service providers in our data centre include:
    • TransACT Communications — last mile services
    • Uecomm
    • Powertel
    • Asia Net Comm
    • Agile
    • SPT — Comindico
    • Nextgen Networks
    • AARNet
    • ICON
    • Pipe
    • Chime.
There is access via MDF to Optus and Telstra.
There is access via TransACT (metro ethernet or ATM) to MCI and AAPT.
    Racks and co-location
    Carrier grade area

TransACT provides 24 hours, seven days a week no-fee customer access to TransACT supplied 42 RU cabinets (Rital or Hallam cabinets) and 24 hours, seven days a week no-fee customer access to customer-supplied cabinets.
All of the cabinets are sited on a 270 mm raised floor with anti-static tiles and under-floor cable management, and are supplied with a 7 port cat, RJ-45 terminated, ethernet patch panel to all other co-located cabinets, along with a 12 port twisted copper RJ-45 telephony patch panel back to a TransACT supplied internal distribution frame.

Fibre interconnection services are supplied on demand and are not pre-cabled.

  • Power
TransACT's data centre sits within the Canberra power grid. This is supported by an in-building power substation supplying 4,000 APMS to a 450 kVA UPS system that supplies conditioned AC power to the TransACT data centre. The UPS's 3-string battery backup supplies 450kVA and is backed by a (750kVA) diesel generator. TransACT has on-site fuel storage to service the generator system running at full load for a period of approximately 288 hours.
All TransACT supplied 42 RU cabinets are powered with 10-outlet power rails and can be fed from two separate power distribution boards with the addition of a second outlet power rail, to support servers equipped with redundant power supplies. Customer-supplied racks (or TransACT racks) can be upgraded or installed with bespoke power configurations, as required.

  • Cooling
All areas have n + 1 redundancy built into the cooling capacity in the event of a failure. The data centre's ambient room temperature and humidity is monitored along with the plenum charge being delivered to cabinets.
All systems are alarmed and managed by the Network Operations Centre (NOC) and dedicated facilities staff. The NOC operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

  • Security building
The TransACT data centre possesses a highly robust construction, having previously housed the Department of Administration mainframes.
The centre is windowless and physically separated from TransACT House tower. Brick ramparts minimize the effect of any potential heavy vehicle impact.
There are a minimum of two layers of physical security for the customer's individually keyed rack.

  • Security monitoring
CCTV cameras are strategically located throughout the facility, recording 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Access to secure areas is via data key system, authorised by our computerised access-control system. No unescorted visitor or contractor will be allowed access to the facility unless our client has given prior authorisation.
